Sur-Ron Light Bee X street legal in the Bay Area?

Hey guys!! I'm planning a move from Seattle down to the Bay Area, somewhere near San Francisco/Oakland, and I have a huge concern about my Sur-Ron Light Bee X. I know California is notoriously strict with the 750W limit and requiring pedals for any e-bike classification. Given the Light Bee X's power and lack of pedals, is there any workaround for street use in the SF/Oakland area? Will I face immediate impoundment if I try to use it for commuting on city streets or bike lanes? I've seen talk about registering them as "homemade" motorcycles, but I have no idea how feasible that is for a Washington transplant trying to register a non-FMVSS compliant dirt bike. Do I need to be prepared to sell it and buy a real dual-sport? Any advice from NorCal Sur-Ron riders would be appreciated. Thanks for all your help!!

I looked into this when I moved to Sacramento with my Light Bee X. California's pretty strict. No pedals and over 750W means it's not street legal without jumping through a bunch of hoops. Some people register them as mopeds or OHVs, but it's hit or miss depending on how it's set up and who's inspecting. Will you be riding it every day or just for short runs around the neighborhood? That might change how much hassle you'll run into.

Man, that's exactly what I was afraid of!! Thanks for the heads up, especially coming from someone who's already been through it in NorCal. I was really hoping to use it for daily commuting, about a 5-mile trip each way, mostly on city streets with some bike lanes available, so it sounds like I'd be tempting fate. The "homemade" motorcycle registration seemed like a long shot, but your hit-or-miss comment on moped/OHV is a real bummer. It sounds like the risk of impoundment is pretty high if the police are actively cracking down. Maybe I'll start looking into a low-power, pedal-equipped city e-bike as a plan B for the daily grind and keep the Sur-Ron for OHV park trips only. Appreciate the insight!!
