How do you check battery cell balance signs before a long ride

Before you embark on a big trail adventure, it’s essential to check the balance of your battery cells. You wouldn’t want your battery to fail or cut out on you during the ride because of imbalanced cells. What quick checks or app readings can you do to make sure your battery is genuinely healthy and balanced, instead of just showing a full charge while concealing potential problems?

Absolutely. I typically launch the app and take a look at the voltage of each cell one by one. If they're just a few millivolts apart, it’s usually not a huge deal. But if there's a bigger discrepancy, that's a warning sign before I head out.

I've been misled by “fully charged” statuses in the past.
A quick tip, check the cell voltages both when they’re sitting idle and while under a light load.
If something seems off, hold off on riding, better to charge or rebalance first

I prefer a straightforward load test: keep an eye on how each cell performs with a small draw. If one drops off quicker than the rest, there’s likely an imbalance hiding behind that “100%” reading.

While apps are useful, I wouldn’t just rely on the overall percentage. I go through the individual cell voltages, take note of any laggers, and let the Battery Management System do its thing if necessary before I set off on my ride.

You made some excellent points. It's definitely wiser to monitor the voltages of each cell and observe how they perform under light load. That’s a much better approach than just relying on a 100% indicator and crossing your fingers.
