Checking wheel bearing play safely

I'm lying under my rig, trying to figure out if the wheel bearings are in good shape or if they're about to cause some trouble. What's your go-to method for checking for play safely, without risking a finger or your patience? I'd love to hear your tips

I usually take the wheel and give it a solid shake. If I feel any wobbling or hear any noise, that’s my cue to have it checked out. It’s a simple process that doesn’t involve much risk. Just make sure your fingers stay away from any moving parts

I’ve realized that a quick wiggle of the wheel while lifting it off the ground works like a charm.
If I feel any play, that’s a clear indicator something’s off.
No need for fancy tools just remember to keep a good distance from the hub.

I’ve picked up the technique of doing that classic push-pull test on the wheel, both at the top and bottom.
If I notice any play at all, it’s time to investigate further. And definitely keep your hand away from the hub to avoid getting caught off guard!

I grab a pry bar and gently push and pull on the inside of the wheel. If there’s any movement, that’s a sign I should be looking at replacing the bearings. It’s a quick check and safe keeps my fingers out of harm’s way
