First e-dirt bike buying advice?

I'm looking for some advice on buying my first e-dirt bike and discovered this forum.. I've never ridden a gas dirt bike, but I've got mountain biking experience and want something for trail riding and maybe some light motocross practice. I'm leaning electric for the low maintenance, quiet operation, and instant torque.

I'm hoping it won't cost me more than 6k, and I'm looking for something that's not going to be too overwhelming. I've heard the Sur-Ron Light Bee and Talaria Sting are good starting points, but I'm open to other suggestions. What should I be looking for in terms of power, battery range, and suspension for a new rider? Are there any specific brands or models that are known for being beginner-friendly? Any tips on what to look for when buying new versus used are also appreciated. Thanks for the help!

hi @AdamG.176 yeah, the Sur-Ron and Talaria are both awesome starting points and are definitely in your price range.
For a new rider with mountain biking experience, I'd say start with a bike that has around 5-10 kW of power.
The instant torque is a blast, but you don't want something that's going to launch you off the back. I'd actually recommend checking out the Stark Varg. I know it's a bit out of your budget for a new one, but you can find them used, and it would be worth every penny!

Nice! Your MTB experience is a great asset for an e-dirt bike! The Sur-Ron Light Bee X and Talaria Sting are also great choices, easily fitting under $6k. The Sur-Ron is lighter and more nimble, feeling more like a big MTB, while the Talaria is often slightly beefier and more planted. The stock suspension is adequate for trails, but you'll need upgrades later if you get serious about motocross. Just ride it until you feel its limits first. Buying new gives you a warranty and a fresh battery, which I think is the better option. Buying used saves money, but the battery health is your main risk, so always ask for its age and charge history. Stick with these popular models either way. Their parts are also not hard to find. For a new rider, you should focus on a bike with adjustable power modes so you can start slow and grow into the bike's instant torque and both of those entry-level models have that feature. Look for a battery that has at least a 25 to 30 mile range under mixed trail use. Suspension is very important too!. Look for a model that comes with proper off-road forks and a rear shock that are at least adjustable for preload and rebound.
