Electric dirt bike for kids

my grandson's going to be 12 in a couple of months, and he just told me he wants an electric dirt bike for his birthday. I want to get him one, I think he deserves it, but I'm also a little worried.
I'm wondering if it's safe for a kid his age to ride a dirt bike. I've seen some videos, and they seem really fast.
Also, what kind of safety gear should I get him? I want to make sure he's as safe as possible. Any tips or advice would be a huge help!

Totally get where you're coming from. At 12, kids can ride electric dirt bikes safely if the bike fits them and they ride in a safe place with an adult watching. He should wear a full helmet, chest pad, gloves, boots, and pads for knees and elbows. Do you know what kind of ground he'll be riding on most? That can help pick the right bike.

I think it's safe as long as you train them well and give them safety gears. Kids are naturally risk takers and the younger they learn, the better.

Just to add, look for bikes with speed limiters or adjustable power settings to ease him into it. Is your grandson used to riding bikes or quads yet?

I have a nephew and my dad gave him one for Christmas. They have a wide space for him to ride around and so he did and his father was there teaching him. I think it's pretty safe. Just make sure the safety gears are complete.
