Dealer wants full payment first

Co-worker went to check out the new Segway X160 and said the dealer was helpful but didn’t have any in stock. They offered to order one but asked for full payment up front. Is that normal or should he wait until they have one in the shop?

I wouldn't be surprised they'd ask for a full payment upfront for in-demand units like the X160. They'd need it to lock in the sale and make you don't bail once they secure the bike for you. Though I'd also understand if your co-worker feels hesitant or uncomfortable. Maybe he can push for a deposit instead then settle the balance due upon pick-up or delivery? That's actually the more standard pre-order practice. Also try to look for previous customers of that dealer to verify reliability and get feedback?
