eScape 4-speed tuning

I just got an Electric Motion eScape and I’m trying to set up the 4-speed gears. I ride on steep forest trails and want more power at low speed but I don’t want to lose top speed. Has anyone found a good gear setup for this?

To improve low-speed torque on climbs, consider lowering your first two gears, while keeping third and fourth gears as they are for maximum speed. Make gradual adjustments to the gear ratios and test them out on your trails to strike the right balance between power and speed.

you can't truly have both, john. It's a trade off. To get more grunt in 1st for those steep forest trails, you need a larger rear sprocket (or a smaller front one). This will give you huge torque for climbing but will definitely shave a few MPH off your top speed in 4th.
A
couple of my friends go up a few teeth on the rear sprocket (like if you're stock at 52T, try a 54T or 56T).
That small change makes 1st and 2nd gear feel like a tractor, which is perfect for technical climbs, and the top speed loss in 4th is usually manageable on the trail

Hey, it's also a good idea to see if you can play around with the torque curves or throttle response in your controller settings. Some riders get that low-end power boost just by tweaking the electronic settings instead of changing the gears.

You may want to think about your tire selection and air pressure as well. Choosing tires with better grip and lowering the PSI a bit can really help with torque transfer when you're tackling steep hills. Also, don’t forget to adjust your regenerative braking settings, fine-tuning those can give you better control on downhill paths without messing with your gear shifts.
